How to Spot a Good Psychic Medium
With so many psychic mediums advertising their services today, it can be difficult to know whom to trust. Having taught spiritual development for decades and worked professionally as a psychic medium myself, I have witnessed the good, the bad, and unfortunately, the ugly.
I've also observed many well-known mediums over the years, and one thing has become very clear: an authentic psychic medium should always place honesty, integrity, and the client's well-being above everything else.
Here are some of the qualities I believe every client should look for before scheduling a reading.
1. Pricing Should Be Clear and Honest
A reputable psychic medium is transparent about their fees.
There should be one stated price and a clearly defined amount of time for the session. You should never discover hidden costs, surprise fees, or be pressured to purchase additional services once the reading has begun.
Unfortunately, some people offer inexpensive introductory sessions only to continually encourage clients to spend more money throughout the experience. These practices damage the reputation of genuine spiritual practitioners.
An ethical medium tells you the cost upfront, and that's exactly what you should expect.
2. They Should Not Fish for Information
One of the biggest signs of a skilled psychic medium is that they provide information rather than asking leading questions.
When I begin a reading, I ask only for a client's full name. From that point forward, I prefer to do the work myself.
The more information a client volunteers, the harder it becomes for me to validate what I am receiving from Spirit.
For example, I might say:
"I have a woman coming through who is about five feet tall with bright blue eyes, a warm smile, and a fuller figure. She grew up on a farm and passed from cancer. She tells me she is your grandmother. Does this make sense to you?"
A simple "yes" or "no" is all I need.
Those are validation questions, not leading questions.
A genuine reading should provide evidence before asking for confirmation.
3. There Should Be No Gimmicks
An authentic reading does not require elaborate rituals.
You should not be told that candles need to be purchased, spells must be performed, curses removed, or expensive energy work is suddenly required before the reading can continue.
A true medium either provides accurate information or they do not.
The reading should stand on its own.
4. An Ethical Medium Doesn't Want You to Become Dependent
One of the biggest warning signs is a reader who encourages clients to return over and over again for answers to every decision in life.
A good psychic medium empowers people rather than creating dependency.
Personally, I rarely recommend private readings more than once a year unless someone is experiencing a major life transition and needs additional support through coaching or healing work.
The goal is always to help clients move forward—not keep them coming back.
5. Healthy Skepticism Is a Good Thing
I actually enjoy working with people who are respectfully skeptical.
Blind belief is no healthier than complete disbelief.
Healthy skepticism encourages validation, careful thinking, and meaningful evidence.
At the same time, someone who refuses to consider any possibility, regardless of the evidence presented, may also prevent themselves from having a meaningful experience.
Validation is one of the strongest indicators of an authentic reading.
6. The Focus Should Be on Serving People, Not Performing
Over the years, I have attended demonstrations by famous psychic mediums.
Some spent more time drawing attention to themselves than helping the audience. Others read only a handful of people during events where everyone had paid to attend.
I have always believed that if people have made the effort to attend an event, the medium should work diligently to reach as many audience members as possible.
When I conduct charity events for organizations such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and other worthwhile causes, I move throughout the audience and do my best to provide as many meaningful readings as possible.
Serving people should always come before performing.
7. A Good Medium Helps You Heal
The purpose of a reading is not simply to predict the future.
It is to provide comfort, clarity, healing, encouragement, and hope.
For clients going through major life transitions, I often recommend combining intuitive guidance with life coaching and Reiki. Together, these approaches help people process grief, make healthier decisions, release what no longer serves them, and move forward with greater confidence.
The goal is not dependency.
The goal is healing.
Final Thoughts
Finding a trustworthy psychic medium requires discernment.
Look for someone who is honest about pricing, provides meaningful validation, avoids manipulative tactics, and genuinely cares about your personal growth.
A true psychic medium should leave you feeling empowered, encouraged, and more connected to your own path—not fearful or financially pressured.
